Narrator (f):
To conclude our tour of the exhibition The New Objectivity: A Centennial, we invite you to experience the historical exhibition of 1925 anew in an immersive, multimedia spatial projection. Unfortunately, the historical presentation was not documented in photographs. To reconstruct what was exhibited at the time, one can, however, refer to materials from the Kunsthalle archive: the catalogue, letters, press reviews, and photographs of individual works.
Narrator (m):
It was thus possible to identify 112 of the 132 works of art and to document them with photographs. But not all of these works have survived. Seven works are considered lost. Twenty paintings could no longer be found. Often their trail is lost during World War II. Several were victims of the National Socialists’ “Degenerate Art” action. For twenty of the works, we have only the artist’s name and the work’s title. It is unclear whether these paintings still exist. The spatial projection makes it possible to experience visually and acoustically the works shown at the time but also the gaps and losses.
Narrator (f):
The installation is located on the second of the upper stories on the left side. You can enter it at any time. Viewing it takes about ten minutes. The digital reconstruction will be on view there until the end of 2025.
We hope you will experience a fascinating tour with many discoveries and inspirations. Visit us again soon.
